Shaw, Ray Brooks have

several runners shine

The 1A Boys North Half Track and Field Meet was held Saturday at Potts Camp and several runners from the Shaw Lady Hawks and the Ray Brooks Lady Tigers qualified for the state meet to be held Saturday and Monday at Pearl High School.

The top four finishers qualified for the state meet.

Derrick Jenkins led the Tigers with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.60) and a second place in the 100-meter dash (10.93). Jamarcus Tyler finished fourth in the boys 3,200-meter run (11:34.00) and second in the 800-meter run (2:17.52). The Tigers also won the 4x100 meter relay (45.98). Jonathan Haynes came in third in the 400-meter dash (57.28), Shannon Smith finished fourth in the boys shot put (39-08.00) and Dennis Jenkins came in third in the boys triple jump (41-00.00)

Octavious Stimage led the Hawks with a first place finish in the 400-meter dash (54.67), Lekia McRoy won the 800-meter run (2:12.38) and Malik Walker won the high jump (5-10.00). The Hawks finished third in the 4x100 meter relay (46.53) and third in the 4x200 meter relay (1:37.86) while Jermarquis Stimage finished fourth in the long jump (20-02.50) for Shaw.

1A Girls

The 1A Girls North Half Track and Field Meet was held Saturday at Potts Camp and several runners from Ray Brooks qualified for the state meet to be held Saturday and Monday at Pearl High School. The top four finishers qualified for the state meet.

Deneshia Lindsey led the Lady Tigers by winning the girls 1,600-meter run (6:15.00) and finishing second in the 400-meter dash (1:06.32). T'Kyra Hicks came in third in the 300-meter hurdles (54.69) and fourth in the girls long jump (14-06.25).

Alexia Weatherspoon finished fourth in the girls shot put (29-01.50) and second in the girl's discus throw (86-04) while Kierra Hicks finished fourth in the girls discus throw (73-05).
