“There are going to be more vendors this year than I’ve ever had,” said Anne Dilworth, special events coordinator and Team Cleveland manager. “I’m having to make space just to have room for them all.”
Apparently the pleasant autumn weather is to blame for the increase in vendors.
“I think the arts and crafters are seeing that it’s going to be great weather,” said Dilworth. “Also, Octoberfest has grown, and it’s just getting bigger and bigger.”
The festival, which begins today at 5 p.m., will also include plenty of food vendors, who will have something delicious for everyone.
“We’ll have 18 food vendors this year—everything from pizza, hot tamales, snow cones, chicken on a stick, burgers, funnel cake, ice cream… you name it,” said Dilworth.
Dilworth also added that they would have more kids’ activities this year than ever before, including rock climbing, paintball, and a bungee jump.
The children’s section will be located near the Cleveland Fire Station downtown.
“There’s going to be something for everybody this year,” said Dilworth. “The whole family can be involved.”
Memphis In May competitors have already begun preparing for the competition which will be held Saturday.
The official kickoff of Octoberfest will be at 6 p.m. today with the Lighting of the Grill ceremony at the main stage near the Delta Arts Alliance.
Festivities begin Saturday at 9 a.m. downtown and will end with the announcement of the barbecue winners at 6 p.m.
