Mississippi Delta Community College will be offering an ACT workshop at the Greenville Higher Ed Center on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Students will break for lunch on their own from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.

Any area high school or college student is invited and encouraged to attend.

The cost for the workshop is $60.

At MDCC, ACT scores can earn you free tuition.

First-time entering freshmen with a composite score of 18 or better could receive a full tuition scholarship to Mississippi Delta Community College.

Having a composite score of 25 or better could earn a tuition scholarship plus room and board.

According to Dr. Mary Anne Brocato, associate vice president of the Greenville Higher Ed Center, “the ACT may not be a predictor of long-term success in life, but it is certainly important in the admission process for most colleges.”

The exam consists of four parts: English language, math, reading and science reasoning.

Scores range from one to thirty-six in each category and are then averaged for an overall composite score.

Brocato added, “Higher ACT scores lead to scholarships which could mean thousands of dollars for a student’s college education.”

Although there are no guarantees that the workshop will improve scores, there have been many success stories.

“We have had students improve overall scores by as much as seven points after completing the workshop and some test takers have improved individual subject area scores by as much as ten points” according to Brocato.

She added “We are very fortunate to have master level instructors in each of the subject areas to conduct the workshop.”
