Glitz, heels, swimsuits and current events are what McKenzie Williamson is preparing for.

Williamson, a sophomore at Bayou Academy, is Miss Cleveland Teen USA and will be representing Cleveland in the 2014 Miss Mississippi Teen USA Pageant Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at Harrah's Event Center in Tunica.

According to the Miss Mississippi Teen USA website each contestant will compete in three equal phases of preliminary competition: swimsuit, evening gown, and interview.

"I already have my dress but the swimsuit will be hard (to find) because it has to be lime green or orange," said Williamson.

The scores from the preliminary phases of competition are added up and the contestants with the highest composite scores become semifinalists.

The number of semifinalists will be between 10 and 15 and will be determined by the total number of contestants in the competition.

Once the semifinalists are announced during the show, they will again compete in swimsuit and evening gown.

These two phases of competition will narrow the field to a group of five finalists.

The top five will then each have an on-stage interview.

The interview will be conducted by the emcee and he will ask them several questions about their bio, or topics related to their bio.

The interview will end with one randomly selected question unrelated to their bio, and submitted prior to the show by the panel of judges.

After the top five interviews, the judges will select a winner, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up, and 4th runner-up.

Before the pageant, Williamson will attend two seminars: one in Nashville and one in Tunica, where she will learn how to properly walk on stage, and the basics of the competition.

Williamson is readying to be both mentally and physically.

"I've been going to the gym every day," said Williamson.

Although she is currently in a Mississippi Studies class, Williamson is studying extra hard to stay updated on current affairs, as well as Mississippi news.

"We've found a lot of interview questions on the Internet," said Williamson. She also said that her mom randomly quizzes her with practice questions, sometimes even while they are in the car.

When asked about her evening gown, Williamson's eye lit up as she described the trip to find the perfect dress.

"It was a little store in Jackson that everyone talks so highly of — Susan's Shoppe. "The second we opened the door it was glamorous and glittery," said Williamson.

She said the moment she walked inside she knew which dress she wanted.

"It was just sitting there and I was like 'I've found it.' I tried on some more, they kept putting me in yellows and golds but I knew I wanted the one out front," said Williamson.

While she practices every night and works hard in the gym, Williamson is grateful for the support from her family and friends.

"I'm so excited to represent Cleveland in this pageant and I'm so glad that all of my family and friends have been supporting me.

"I think this will be a really fun experience and I'm ready to see where it goes," said Williamson.

If Williamson wins the state title, she will compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant in August 2014
