The Cleveland-Bolivar Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the upcoming inauguration of Delta State University’s new president William N. LaForge by hosting a community cookout from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Statesmen Park.

The cookout will follow the Athletic Department’s “Trunk or Treat,” an event where goods will be given out to trick-or-treaters from the trunks of vehicles.

“It will be a free event — open to all,” said Chamber Executive Director Judson Thigpen. “We really want to encourage people to come to this event. People can bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets. We will have tables as well. We will also have games for the kids, which the theater department is helping out with.”

Food will include hamburgers and hotdogs and beer will also be available for purchase.

The bands, DMI All-Stars and 1964: The Tribute, will provide musical entertainment for the evening.

A pep rally will follow the cookout at 9 p.m. and that will be followed by a 10-minute firework show.

Delta State faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to attend LaForge’s inauguration, which will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Bologna Performing Arts Center in Cleveland.
