The Cleveland East All-Stars went on an excellent run in the Dixie Youth 10 and under District 1 Baseball Tournament in Greenville.

After losing Friday’s first game of the tournament to Humphreys County 14-4, Cleveland East ended up winning its next four games and finished second in the district tournament when it concluded on Monday.

The biggest key to success for Cleveland East were the bats. Cleveland scored 53 runs over its four-game winning streak.

“The bats came to life, and we played good defensive ball,” East Side head coach Marcus Williams said. “I stressed to my guys that we’ve come to far to go back now. I told them in order for us to compete in this tournament, we’re going to have to hit the ball. I’m proud of them.”

On Saturday, Cleveland defeated the Greenville National All-Stars 10-0 and the Hollandale All-Stars 15-0. Cleveland East continued its hot streak on Sunday by defeating Indianola 16-4 and Humphreys County 12-11.

In Monday’s championship game, Cleveland fell to Clarksdale 12-2 to finish second in the district tournament.

The main hitters for Cleveland East during the tournament were Jadarrious Randle, Jacobie Nailor, Orlando Truss, Tyler Feltson and Damarion Jones. Truss, Randle and Kaylen Howell also pitched well for Cleveland East during the tournament.

The Cleveland West All-Stars ended up getting eliminated in the district tournament. After losing to Indianola 14-9 on Friday, Cleveland West defeated Washington County American 5-0 but lost to Washington National 11-9.

Against Washington County American, Reed Upchurch and Sirr Trotter pitched three shutout innings each. John Michael Mims nailed three hits to lead Cleveland West, followed by Trotter with a home run.

Against Washington County National, Jacory Hampton went the full six innings for Cleveland West. Mims led three hits and three RBIs, followed by Justin Bradshaw and Trotter with multiple hits each and Upchurch with a home run.

Cleveland East travel to Magee in the AAA (10-year-old) State Tournament on July 19th.
