The Cleveland West All-Stars improved to 3-0 in the tournament by hammering the Indianola All-Stars 16-1, while the Cleveland East All-Stars avoided elimination by defeating the Humphreys County All-Stars 16-5.
In the elimination game between Cleveland East and Humphreys County, Cleveland East jumped on top of Humphreys County by scoring six runs in the first and seven runs in the second to take a 13-0 lead. Humphreys County was able to battle back with two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth, but the Cleveland East regained control of the game and scored three runs in the sixth to end the game due to the mercy rule.
Jaylen McRoy, Trenton Cooper, Rufus Jackson, Nicholas Taylor and Jaryn Kelly scored two runs each to lead Cleveland East, followed by Charles Crowder Jr., Jeremiah Payne, Dylan Mitchell, Vinson Robey, Tony Bradley Jr. and Pete Brown Jr with a run each.
In the winner’s bracket game between Cleveland West and Indianola, Cleveland West poured it on from the start of the game as the team scored seven runs in the first to take an early 7-0. Cleveland West ended up scoring nine runs over the last three innings to secure the victory. Indianola scored its only run in the fourth.
Carter Connell and Patrick Hayze Bramuchi stroked three hits and scored two runs each to lead Cleveland West, followed by Jacob Smith, Austin Batts, Brandon Ware, Dawson Shive and Caleb Dodd with two runs each and Caleb Carter and Marshall Brown with a run each.
In other action in the 8-year-old Tournament, Clarksdale defeated Washington County 9-2 in an elimination game.
Tonight’s action will put Indianola and Clarksdale against each other at 5:30 p.m., while Cleveland East and Cleveland West will take on each other at 5:30 p.m. There is also another game scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight. If there are three teams remaining with one loss after tonight, a coin flip determines who will play Friday for the district title. With Cleveland West being the only unbeaten team in the tournament right now, two straight wins tonight for Cleveland West will give the team the district title and the tournament will end tonight.
In the first night of Dixie Youth District 1 7-year-old Boys Coach Pitch Tournament Wednesday at Bear Pen Park, Cleveland East fell to Clarksdale 20-5. Nathan Carlize scored twice to lead Cleveland East, followed by Jeremias Franklin, Ja’Korion Houston and Zion Butler with a run each.
In other action in the tournament, Indianola defeated Washington County 15-5.
In tonight’s action, Cleveland East will play Washington County in a loser’s bracket game at 5:30 p.m., while Clarksdale will play Indianola in a winner’s bracket game at 5:30 p.m.
