In September 2012, Cleveland Police arrested and charged Walker with the statutory rape of an eight-year-old girl.
According to Police Chief Charles "Buster" Bingham, Walker was apprehended at his place of employment Tuesday afternoon
The investigation began on Sept. 22, 2012, when hospital personnel contacted the police department.
"We received a call from hospital personnel concerning a possible sexual assault on an eight-year-old girl," said Bingham. "DHS was notified and a doctor at the hospital did a series of test. It was determined that the girl had been sexually assaulted."
Bingham said that through the initial investigation the department was able to obtain a warrant for Walker's arrest.
"In our investigation, it was determined that Walker had been having sex with the eight-year-old child," said Bingham. "With the evidence that we had, we were able to obtain an arrest warrant.”
According to Mississippi law, a conviction for statutory rape, involving a defendant over the age of 18 and with a victim under the age of 14, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years to life in prison.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
