Visitation will be held Sunday April 13, 2014, from noon-2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland.
Funeral services will follow in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the New Cleveland Cemetery. Reverends Robert Haney and Special Agent Bruce Little will officiate the service.
Elsie was born on February 1, 1935, to James M. and Gladys (Abston) Blount in Monticello, Ark. She was a dedicated and devoted registered nurse who cared for hundreds of Mississippi Delta residents throughout her long career. Elsie loved to travel and had traveled the entire United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Europe extensively. Elsie was a cherished wife, beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband John Thomas Baker, three sisters; Alice Mitchum, Pat Gates and Thelma Wells.
Elsie is survived by daughters, Susan (Craig) Strain of Cleveland, Wanda (Rick) Hendrix of Jonesboro, Ark., Tammie (Joe) Davidson of Cleveland, Kitty (K.G.) Sims of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Mandy (Dr. Phil) Norsworthy of Jackson, Tenn.; sister, Bonnie Burton; two brothers Roger and Raymond Blount; 11 grandchildren Sarah, Meredith, Kady, Max, Zac, Stephanie, Blair, Savannah, John Eli, Lauren and Baker; and three great grandchildren Elaina, Brooklyn and Frazier.
Pallbearers are her nephews Steve, Mike and Nat Baker, Greg and Steve Burton and Allen Pugh.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Helms, Ronnie Perrigin and Jeremy Little.
