Freddie Jerrel Mathis, 57, of Merigold died Saturday, February 1, 2014, at home.

Visitation was held Monday, February 3, 2014, from noon until 1:45 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home.

Graveside services immediately followed at Delta Heights Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Reverend Rick Milan officiated the service.

Freddie was born on May 17, 1956, to Ollie and Ruby (McMinn) Mathis in Shaw. He attended Shaw Schools and grew up in the Shaw-Skene community. He formerly worked with Delta Rice and farmed and was currently employed as a welder with Soliz Construction. Freddie was a hard working man who loved his family. His sense of humor was noted by all enjoying his company. He loved to dance, cook on the grill and eat. He formerly attended the Cleveland Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Glenn Greer, Bobby Mathis and sister, Patsey Mathis.

Freddie is survived by his companion, Vickie Milum Mathis of Merigold; daughters: Jennifer (A.W.) Parks of Drew and Emily (Blake) Tackett of Cleveland; two step-sons Michael Ballard of Merigold and Jason Ballard of Leland; brothers, Kenny Mathis of Rayne, La., J.W. Mathis of Corinth, and J.D. Mathis, Terry Greer and H.S. Greer of Cleveland; twin sisters; Jynan Bowen of Cleveland and Jynean Medders of Pontotoc and Robbie Doyle of Skene; grandchildre Ashton Ballard, Carlisle Ballard, Landon Knight, Preston Davis, Alex, Trevor, Tristan and Mabrey Parks.

Pallbearers were A.W. Parks, Blake Tackett, Jason Ballard, Jesse Laro, Shane Hays and Jonathan Milam.
