Garland Pope, 82, of Perkinston, formerly of Clarksdale, died on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at his home.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland. Burial will be at the Delta Heights Memorial Gardens in Cleveland. Reverends Cathron Camp and Robert Haney will officiate the service.

Garland was born on January 1, 1932, to William and Viola (Bunch) Pope in the Long Shot Community in Mississippi. He attended Linn School and graduated from Jones Junior College. Garland was a former Horologist/Jeweler from 1953 to 1963 at Simmons Drug Store in Cleveland. In 1963, Garland went to work for the Mississippi State Highway Patrol. While there he was the academy instructor for a number of years. He retired from the Highway Patrol in 1985.

Garland was a member of the Mississippi State Troopers Association, Toastmaster Club and was of the Methodist Faith.

He loved to play dominoes at the City Grill in downtown Cleveland. He was a Weather Channel fanatic, always informing his children across the nation of impending weather. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Floyd Pope, Loyd Pope, Homer Pope; and a sister, Irene Smith.

He is survived by wife, Ann Walker Pope of Perkinston; daughter Silvia (John Stekler) Pope of Metairie , La.; five sons: Michael (Brenda) Pope of West Helena, Ark., David (Ginger) Pope of Cleveland, Richard (Denise) Pope of Goodletsville, Tenn., Wade Holland of Clarksdale, Shannon (Susan) Holland of Batesville; six brothers Eugene (Gladys) McCoy of Jackson, Waymond (Trilby) McCoy of Moorhead, J W (Joyce) Pope of Scott, W.H. (Hilda) Pope of Laurel, Hubert (Mary) Pope of Cleveland, Roy (Jessie) Pope of Leland; and a sister, Violet (Aubrey) Corley of Shaw; and 11 grandchildren John Pope, Jason Pope, Tyler Holland, Jaret King, Jeremy King, Corey Fletcher, Zach Smith, Bradley Smith, Ethan Holland, Deanna Smith and Brittany Holland; two great-grandchildren Christian and Caylee Fletcher. He also leaves behind his first wife Margaret Busby Sumrall of Indianola.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons John Pope, Jason Pope, Tyler Holland, Jaret King, Jeremy King, Corey Fletcher, Zach Smith and Bradley Smith.

Honorary Pallbearer is Ethan Holland.
