The mosaic pig was created by members of Cleveland’s Junior Auxiliary and purchased by Nan Sanders who donated the pig to the chamber so that it would be an addition to the public art available in Cleveland.
“The Chamber was a good fit for the pig because we host Octoberfest which includes a BBQ competition,” said Judson Thigpen, Executive Director of the Cleveland Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is holding a contest for Bolivar County residents to name the pig.
The winner of the contest will receive a gift basket containing a pig statue from Peter’s Pottery, a gift certificate to Sweet’s BBQ, and additional pig related items.
"We were so excited to get the pig and we’ve been tossing around funny names like ‘Judson Pigpen’ after our Executive Director, Judson Thigpen. But we thought it would be fun to get the community involved to help us come up with a real name," said Lisa Cooley, Team Cleveland/Main Street director.
There will be a sign with the pig’s name on it- it will be by the pig, which sits in front of the Chamber.
A selection committee composed of Chamber members will judge the contest and the deadline to submit names will be on April 1.
"We hope to have a name selected by tax day…April 15," said Cooley.
