Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, at McEvans Elementary School with Rev. C.W. Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Ray Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013, at Brinson Funeral Home in Cleveland.
Jimmy Miller was born and reared in Shaw to the late Deacon A.C. Miller and Earnestine Nichols of Bolivar County. He confessed to Christ at an early age and Joined Mt. Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Walter Jenkins.
On January 8, 1968, Jimmy Miller was united in marriage to Earline Singleton.
In 2010 Jimmy became a member of the Mt. Tabor M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. C.W. Ray, where he served faithfully until his illness. He was a graduate of Mississippi Delta Community College, where he earned a degree in welding. He was a devoted employee of Morgan Farms for 37 years.
From July 7, 1964, to May 22, 1974 he served in the United States Army earning the rank of Specialist 4. Among his many accomplishments in the Army were: Parachutist Badge 2 Service Stripes; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star and three Bronze Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device; five Overseas Service Bars; Bronze Star Medal (first CLC), Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), Purple Heart; Army Commendation Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.
He was preceded in death by his father A.C. Miller; mother, Earnestine Nichols; mother Emma Miller; brothers Charles Scott and Larry Johnson; grandmother Ida White.
He is survived by his wife Earline Miller of 45 years; eight children, Eugene (Peter) Miller of Shaw, Barbara (Miller) Cox of Jackson, Jimmy Miller of Atlanta, Ga., Victoria (Jeffery) Bass of Jackson, Kevin (Ann) Miller of Shaw, Byron Sutton of Chicago, Ill., Tekondria McConnell of Houston, Texas, Montesi (Nekesha) McConnell of Southaven; five brothers, Larry (Eloise) Scott of Matteson, Ill., Ira Glen (Chris) Miller and Verdell (Gloria) Johnson, both of Shaw, Alvin (Sabrina) Miller of Landover, Md., Calvin (Sonya) Miller of Flint, Mich.; nine sisters, Lillie (Robert) Bailey of Bedford Heights, Ohio, Betty Lenior of Atlanta, Ga., Florida (Albert) Burton and Cherly (Evert) Stanton, both of Shaw, Joann White of Cleveland, Ohio, Corlis (Willie) Snow of Birmingham, Ala., Vera Johnson of Chicago, Ill, Jacquline Howard of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Edith Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
