FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Delta State University women's basketball team concluded the 2012-13 season with a 78-56 loss to Nova Southeastern University in the NCAA DII South Region Championship game on Monday at The Arena inside the Don Taft University Center.

Rhandi Ball posted a career-high 28 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the floor and six rebounds. The Lady Statesmen (21-10) started the contest on fire offensively and defensively with Ball recording eight quick points and holding the Sharks (23-8) to just 3-of-10 from the floor to go ahead 15-8 with 11:58 remaining in the first half.

Nova Southeastern came out of the second media timeout hitting scoring five out of their next five shots to take their first lead of the game at 20-19 with 7:27 remaining and finished the half 14-of-26 (.538) from the floor. Delta State finished the half 12-of-32 (.375) from the floor.

Tailor Jones was the leading scorer for NSU in the first half scoring 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor with Taylor Buie recording 10 points.

The Sharks hot handed shooting spilled over into the second half as the Lady Statesmen tried to make a comeback but for every DSU shot made NSU matched it.

Ball helped Delta State's 14-of-26 (.538) second half shooting connecting on 6-of-8 from the floor on the way to her career-best 28 points.

Jones, Nova Southeastern's and the South Region Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, went from being a scorer in the first half to the facilitator of the Sharks offense recording a total of five assists, eight rebounds and 16 total points to cap off the night.

NSU tallied 23 points off of 15 DSU turnovers while limited their number of mishaps by only recording three second half turnovers. The Lady Statesmen who normally record 20 plus points off of turnovers themselves only managed to score five.

Hickman finished with 14 points and four rebounds while Seneca Walton, after producing two double-doubles in the tournament, was held to four points and eight rebounds.
