The Mound Bayou Police Department Youth Activities Department is making provisions for this year’s cookout.

The event is scheduled to be held from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 7.

Sgt. Kelvin Brown, youth activities coordinator, is asking that any individual interested in donating school supplies or food items to please do so.

“If you would like to participate in helping with the cookout or are interested in donating anything, please contact me or please make checks payable to the City of Mound Bayou Youth Activities,” said Brown. “Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. If it is after the hours listed you may drop them off at the Mound Bayou City Hall.”

Brown said the event was very successful last year.

“This year we are planning to hold the event at the Municipal Recreational Building where the city’s swimming pool is,” he said. “The pool has been reopened after being closed for several years.

“If everything goes as planned, we will have the event there and will provide different activities,” said Brown. “We are accepting game donations like tug of war and door prizes.

“I’m hoping the event will go off successfully and that everything works out,” he said.

The following is a list of items needed:

• paper

• folders with prongs

• number 2 pencils

“I am asking that all food donations be made the Friday before the event (Aug. 6) because I don’t have anywhere to store it,” said Brown. “I will be at my office this weekend and next weekend making preparations for the event.

“If anyone would like to drop off any supplies or donations they can do so,” he said. “They can call me and I can tell them when I will be at my office actually.”
