The community of Winstonville is recovering following a tragic accident that occurred in town shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday on Old Highway 61.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop D of Greenwood responded to the scene.

According to a report from Trooper Tony Dunn, a Lincoln Town Car, driven by William Jordan, 47, of Shelby was traveling south when he drove to the right shoulder, lost control and traveled back into the northbound lane of traffic.

Jordan collided with a Honda Accord being driven by Cleathel Walker, 68, from Winstonville.

Walker became trapped in her vehicle, was then rescued and airlifted by Air Evac to a Memphis hospital.

Passenger James Horn, 84, from Mount Vernon, Ill., was transported to Bolivar Medical Center and was later flown by Air Evac to a Memphis hospital with a possible life-threatening injury.

Jordan was transported to the BMC with moderate injuries, but Air Evac flew a 16-year-old passenger from the scene to a Memphis area hospital also with a possible life-threatening injury.

Troop D learned Thursday that Walker died due to injuries sustained in the accident.

No other medical updates were received with other persons involved.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol's accident reconstruction team is assisting in the ongoing investigation.

The Bolivar County Sheriff's Department and Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
