Bayou Boys 69, DeSoto 49

The Bayou Academy Colts continued their hot streak by defeating the DeSoto School Thunderbirds in the first round of the North A State Tournament Wednesday night at Delta Academy in Marks.

Bayou (22-2) has now won 15 games in a row.

Peyton Aldridge scored 19 points to lead the Colts, followed by Chantz Arbuckle with 17 points and six rebounds, Michael Portner with eight points and six rebounds, Tyler Kitchings with seven points and 13 rebounds and Caleb Pilgrim with eight points and seven rebounds.

Bayou will be back in action in the semifinals of the North A Tournament on Friday when the team plays Tunica at 6 p.m.

Tunica Girls 49, Bayou 40

The Bayou Academy Lady Colts couldn’t get going in the right direction as they were eliminated by the Tunica Academy Lady Blue Devils in the first round of the North A State Basketball Tournament Wednesday night at Delta Academy in Marks.

Tunica led 24-16 at halftime.

Anna Grace Cummins led the Lady Colts with nine points, followed by Caroline Salley, Taylor Ann Bailey, Hannah Crick and Taylor Newton with six points each.

Bayou ended its season at 13-14.

Region 3-4A Tournament

Gentry Girls 60, Cleveland 30

The Cleveland High School Lady Wildcats ran into a buzz saw as they lost to the Gentry High School Lady Rams in the semifinals of the Region 3-4A Tournament Wednesday evening at the Greenwood Civic Center.

The Lady Wildcats fell to 16-13.

Cleveland will play in the consolation game of the region tournament against Yazoo County Friday evening at 4 p.m.

Yazoo Co. Boys 48, Cleveland 31

The Cleveland High School Wildcats lost to the Yazoo County Panthers in the first round of the Region 3-4A Tournament Tuesday evening at the Greenwood Civic Center.

Cleveland ended up finishing its season at 5-20.
