The Bayou Academy Colts won their second game in a row by blasting the Lee Academy Cougars in a District 1-A game Friday evening at Marianna, Ark.
Bayou improved to 5-3 with a 3-2 mark in the district, while Lee dropped to 0-7 with an 0-4 mark in the district.
The Colts had a well rounded attack on offense as they racked up 403 yards on 38 total plays. Out of those 403 yards, 339 of them came on the ground.
Ty Holder rushed for 74 yards with two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion on eight carries to lead the Colts, followed by Davis Dalton with 112 rushing yards on 11 carries, Hunter Kovac with 106 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, Caleb Pilgrim with 47 yards and a touchdown on five carries and Tyler Kitchings with a touchdown. Pilgrim also completed 2-of-3 passes for 64 yards, while Weber Herbison kicked an extra point to round out the offense.
Bayou will return to action on Friday when the team hosts Tunica Academy in another district game at 7 p.m.
Ruleville 26, Leflore Co. 20
The Ruleville Central Tigers won their second in a row as they edged out the Leflore County Tigers in Region 4-3A action Friday night at Ruleville.
Ruleville Central improved to 2-7 with a 2-1 mark in the region.
Ontario Smith completed 6-of-12 passes for 98 yards with four touchdowns and rushed for 22 yards on two carries to lead the offense. Jefferson caught two passes for 40 yards with two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion catch to aid the offense, followed by Lapatrick Shaffer with 36 yards on six carries and a 30-yard TD catch, Devarius White with 22 yards on four carries and a 15-yard TD catch, Ricky Scott with 30 rushing yards on two carries and Dawon Harris with 20 yards on three carries.
Scott led the Tigers’ defense by racking up 10 solos tackles with 11 assists for 21 total tackles, followed by Deandre Fields with nine total tackles, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt and Latavius Pleas with four tackles and recovered a blocked kick and returned it 20 yards.
Ruleville will return to the football field on Friday when the Tigers host the East Side Trojans in another region game at 7 p.m.
St. Joe 45, Ray Brooks 0
The Ray Brooks Tigers had tough night Friday as they lost to the St. Joe Fighting Irish in Region 2-1A action in Greenville.
The Tigers fell to 1-7 with a 1-3 mark in the region.
Dennis Jenkins rushed for 22 yards on four carries, while Derrick Jenkins ran for 21 yards on four carries to lead the Tigers’ offense.
Shannon Smith led Ray Brooks’ defense with 16 tackles, followed by Jakarri Armstrong and Norman McKinnie with 12 tackles each and Joshua Tyler with an interception.
Ray Brooks will return to the football field on Friday when the team hosts McAdams for homecoming in Benoit. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Marvell 62, North Sunflower 12
The Marvell Academy Eagles cruised past the North Sunflower Academy Rebels in District 5A 8-man football action Friday night in Drew. The game was also homecoming for NSA.
NSA fell to 1-8 with a 1-5 mark in the district, while Marvell improved to 6-2.
The Rebels will to the gridiron on Friday when they host the Delta Academy Raiders in Drew. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Broad Street 46, West Tally 0
The Broad Street Jaguars shut out the West Tallahatchie Choctaws Friday night to improve their current win streak to six games. With the wins the Jags improved to 6-2 with a 3-0 mark in region play.
Broad Street led West Tally 25-0 at halftime.
Corey Alexander led the Jaguars offense with 126 yards on six carries with two touchdowns, Devonte James had 82 yards on seven carries with two touchdowns, Richard Horn had 51 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns and Ladarius Walker had a 78 yard punt return for a touchdown.
William Horn led the Broad Street defense with 14 tackles, Carmen Banger had 11 tackles and a punt block, Demarcus Alexander had five tackles, James had four tackles with an interception, Traterrius Britton had an interception, Deontae Caston and Ladarius Walker added a sack each.
The Broad Street Jaguars will be back in action at 7 p.m. Friday at home against John F. Kennedy.
JFK 54, Coahoma Co. 0
The John F. Kennedy Hornets improved to 6-3 with a 3-0 mark in the Region 3-2A Saturday night in Clarksdale with a blowout win over the Coahoma County Panthers.
The Hornets will be back in action at 7 p.m. Friday when they make the short trip to Shelby to play the Broad Street Jaguars.
D.M. Smith Middle 26, McEvans 6
The D.M. Smith Middle School Trojans continued to roll Thursday with a 26-6 win over the McEvans Jr. High Warriors.
D.M. Smith improved to 7-0 on the year and McEvans fell to 5-3. D.M. Smith led 14-0 at halftime.
Gary Conrod led the Trojans with 92 yards on six carries and one touchdown and he completed 5-of-7 passes for 135 yards with two touchdowns, Kaelan Hall had 122 yards on seven carries and one catch for a 10-yard touchdown, Javontae Frazier had three receptions for 62 yards, Carlos Bradley had 56 yards on five carries, Rodney Hunter had 55 yards on two carries, Alfred Ware had 35 yards on two carries and Martavius Wright caught one pass for a 40-yard touchdown. Kendrick Thompson led the Trojan defense with 15 tackles, Hall had 13 tackles, Taveyon Craig and Conrod had 10 tackles each, Greg Green had nine tackles, Cameron Howard had seven tackles and Ladarrius Brown had six tackles.
