The Bayou Academy Colts opened the season in fine form as they defeated the Carroll Academy Rebels in Carrollton Friday night.
Tyler Kitchings completed touchdown passes to Chantz Arbuckle, John Thomas Davis and Weber Herbison. Kitchings also scored on a short run.
Bayou improved to 1-0, while Carroll fell to 0-1.
Bayou will return to the gridiron on Friday when the team plays DeSoto School at 7 p.m.
Humphreys County 28, Cleveland 6
The Cleveland High School Wildcats suffered a tough setback to open the football season as they lost to the Humphreys County Cowboys in Belzoni Friday night.
The Wildcats fell to 0-1, while the Cowboys are 1-0. Cleveland committed six turnovers, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Cleveland’s offense rushed for 103 yards and threw for 16 yards for a total of 119 yards of offense, while Humphreys County threw for 144 yards with four touchdowns and rushed for 32 yards for 176 yards of total offense.
Dillon Norwood marched on a three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to lead Cleveland.
Norwood and Ricky Williams led Cleveland’s defense.
Cleveland will host West Bolivar on Friday at 7 p.m.
Leland 41, Ray Brooks 12
The Ray Brooks High School Tigers dropped their first game of the year as they lost to the Leland High School Cubs.
Ray Brooks is 0-1 while Leland is 1-0. Ray Brooks trailed 18-6 at halftime.
Ray Brooks quarterback Syderrick Maiten completed for 6-of-11 passes for 141 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions with Jamarcus Marshall catching both touchdowns and racking up 130 receiving yards on four catches to lead the Tigers’ offense.
In the ground game, Jonathan Hayes rushed for 61 yards to lead the Tigers.
Tevin Carter led the Tigers’ defense with 11 tackles.
Ray Brooks will return to the gridiron on Friday against O’Bannon at 7 p.m.
Briarfield 42, NSA 6
The North Sunflower Academy Rebels opened their season with a loss to the Briarfield Academy Rebels in 8-man football action at Lake Providence, La. Friday night.
NSA fell to 0-1, while Briarfield improved to 1-0. Ronny Henley connected with Jerry Mitchell on a 40-yard touchdown pass.
NSA will return to the football field on Friday when the team hosts Mount Salus in a 7 p.m. contest.
West Tallahatchie 42, Ruleville Central 20
The Ruleville Central Tigers dropped their first game of the football season to the West Tallahatchie Choctaws Friday night in Webb.
Ruleville fell to 0-1, while West Talley improved to 1-0.
Ruleville will be back in action on Friday when the team travels to Shelby to play Broad Street.
