Bayou 10, Delta 0

The Bayou Academy Colts put it on the Delta Academy Raiders in the game one of a best of three series in the second round of the Class A State Baseball Playoffs Tuesday in Marks.

Bayou improved to 15-2, while Delta fell to 12-3. Trevor Runnels earned the win on the mound for Bayou, as he gave up three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Parker Hudson roped three hits with four RBIs to lead the Colts, followed by Caleb Pilgrim with two hits.

Bayou and Delta will play game two of the series at Bayou in a 2 p.m. contest on Friday in Cleveland. The third game, if necessary, is set to be played immediately after.



Pine Grove 15, Ray Brooks 0

The Ray Brooks Lady Tigers saw their fast pitch softball season come to an end as they lost to the Pine Grove Lady Panthers in the second game of the best of three series in the first round of the 1A State Fast Pitch Softball Playoffs Tuesday in Ripley.

Ray Brooks ended its season at 13-7, while Pine Grove improved to 16-6 and will advance to the second round of the playoffs against Smithville.

Cleveland 22, Amanda Elzy 2

The Cleveland High School Wildcats blasted the Amanda Elzy Panthers in a Region 3-4A contest on Monday in Greenwood.

Cleveland improved to 23-1 and finished its region schedule with a perfect 10-0 record.

Matt Hardman earned the win on the mound as he gave up two runs on one hit with five strikeouts and a walk. Jordan Burchfield closed the game out for Cleveland as he gave up a hit with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings of work.

Matt Ray roped four hits including a triple with two RBIs, followed by Dillon Norwood with two hits including a triple with two RBIs and five runs.

Cleveland will hit the road to play Calhoun City on Friday in a regular season game with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.

Bayou takes fourth

The Bayou Academy Colts took fourth in the Indianola Academy Golf Invitational Monday.

Nelson Billhofer led Bayou as he qualified for state with a 77. Trey Mullins aided Bayou with a 93, followed by Tanner Marble with a 105 and Christian Collins with a 109.

Billhofer is the only golfer for Bayou to qualify for state.
