Two deaths have been confirmed after an incident that spread across both Sunflower and Bolivar counties, which involved at least one other person.

LaMarcus Matthews, 32, of Cleveland, was found shot in the 1700 block of Juanita Circle.

He was transported to Bolivar Medical Center then airlifted to The Med in Memphis and was reported dead this morning.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

"The county had an incident to happen that spilled over into Ruleville that spilled back into Cleveland to where we had a LaMarcus Matthews found shot in the 1700 block of Juanita Circle," said Cleveland Police Chief Buster Bingham on Wednesday.

Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams had no knowledge any updates on the incident and made no comments.

According to Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood on Wednesday, Matthews shot and killed George Ivey Jr. in Ruleville late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Warren Strain, a spokesperson of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, said, "At this point all we can say is that MBI is assisting the sheriff's and police department.

"The crime scene unit went out and gathered some evidence to be submitted and the autopsy is pending. The case is still under investigation."

The Bolivar Commercial will have more as the story develops.
