An investigation continues in Shelby with concerns over the actions of Police Chief Pat Johnson.

According to Alderman and Vice Mayor Harold Billings, the Shelby city board and Mayor Dan Harris received a letter about a week ago related to Johnson.

While Billings could not explain what behavior is under investigation, he said the mayor suspended Johnson with pay indefinitely until the board can come to a resolution.

Harris was unavailable for comment before press time.

Because this is a matter involving personnel, Billings could not go into further details.

"He's been suspended (already) for about a week," said Billings. "Sheila Pointer is acting as the interim police chief.

"We will meet either Friday or Monday and wait to make a comment on what the issue is. At that time we'll reveal the outcome."

The Bolivar Commercial will have more information on this situation as it develops.
