Shots rang out into the darkness of Wednesday's early morning and a man was rushed to Bolivar County Medical Center clinging to life due to a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Cleveland Police Department received a call around 1:40 a.m. that shots were fired on the 200 block of Cross Street.

An officer responded to the scene was told that the victim had been taken to the hospital by means of personal transportation.

"The officer immediately went to the hospital and learned that Lakendrick McCline had suffered one gun shot wound to the chest area. He was later transported to a different facility for treatment," said Chief Buster Bingham.

"The vehicle that was involved in the incident was located and processed."

After further investigation by the CPD, a search warrant was obtained for the residence of Cordell Robinson, 26.

"During the search warrant two handguns were found and also a small amount of controlled substances," said Bingham.

Robinson was charged with one county of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

"He is currently at the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility awaiting an initial hearing," said Bingham.
