CPC to hold youth camps

The Cleveland Park Commission will be holding a youth basketball camp for girls and boys ages 9-12 on May 28-31 from 8-noon. The camp for ages 12-15 will be held from 1-4 p.m. on May 28-31 as well.

The cost for both camps is $60 and participants should sign up at the park commission. All participants will receive a regulation size basketball. Age appropriate goals will be used to enhance everyone's opportunity to succeed. All participants will be taught fundamental skills of playing basketball. League games will be played daily, hot shot, free throw and dribbling competitions. Championship play daily with medals awarded on Friday.

The CPC will host a youth basketball camp for boys and girls ages 5-8 lasting from June 4-7. The camp will last from 8 a.m. – noon each day. The registration fee for the camp is $60.

DSU women to hold camps

The Delta State University Lady Statesmen will be hosting three basketball camps this summer at the Walter Sillers Coliseum on the campus of DSU.

The first camp is for girls entering grades 1-4 on June 10-13. The camp will last from 8 a.m. to noon each day. The registration fee is $100.

The second camp will be held on June 17-20 for girls entering grades 5-8. The camp will last from 8 a.m. – noon each day. The registration fee is $100.

The third camp will be held on June 21 and 22 and will be for girls entering grades 9-12. The camp will last from 5-8 p.m. on June 21 and will last from 9-11 a.m. on June 22. The registration fee is $60 for commuters and $95 for overnight campers.

All campers will receive instruction from players and coaches on the DSU women’s basketball team.

Birdies and Backhands set for June 1

The annual Birdies and Backhands golf and tennis tournaments will be played on June 1 at the Cleveland Country.

The tennis tournament is a women’s doubles tournament. The levels are 3.0 and under, 3.5 and 4.0 and over. Entry fee is $35 per person.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the tournament with the first round set for 9 a.m.

The golf tournament will be for men and women. The tournament is a two-person scramble with the entry fee set for $50 per person and $100 per team.

Delany Pro Camp set for May 31

The Delaney Pro Camp For Kids will be held on May 31 and Jun. 1 at C.V. Thurmond Stadium on the campus of John F. Kennedy High School in Mound Bayou.

Professional players that are expected to be at the pro camp are Houston Texans running back Ben Tate, Houston Texans offensive tackle Derek Newton, former Oakland Raiders player Carl Kidd, former Carolina Panthers player Dante Wesley and former Detroit Lions player Marcus Bell.

The camp will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Driver Camp set for June 20

The annual Donald Driver Foundation Football Camp will be held at Mickey Sellers Stadium at Cleveland High School for players ages 7-17.

Golf Tourney set for Saturday

The Cleveland High School Cheerleaders will be hosting their eighth annual golf tournament at the Cleveland Country Club on Saturday

Shotgun start time is set for 8 a.m. The registration fee is $50 per person or $200 per team. Cart will not be included. The proceeds benefit the CHS cheerleaders.
