Huey Townsend, president and chief executive officer of Guaranty Bank & Trust, has announced that long-time Cleveland banker Doug Springer will be retiring as president of the bank’s Cleveland Office, effective Oct. 31.

Springer retires after more than 35 years in the banking industry. Upon completion of his degree in Business Administration from Delta State University in 1974, he began his banking career in 1977 with the Department of Banking and Consumer Affairs.

In 1980, he joined Valley Bank in Cleveland and has been a fixture in Cleveland banking since that time, including 19 years of service with Merchants & Farmers Bank as President, prior to joining Guaranty Bank in 2005.

Over the course of his career, Springer has served on the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as well as the Board of the Industrial Development Foundation.

He has also sat on the Boards of the Delta State Alumni Foundation, Cleveland Country Club and Cleveland Noon Lion’s Club. He has served as Director of the Cleveland Airport Commission and the Board of Directors of Commonwealth National Life Insurance Company.

Springer has also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, United Way, the American Heart Association and Ducks Unlimited. He is an active member and former Finance Committee Chairman of First Baptist Church.

“Under Doug’s leadership, our Cleveland Branch has grown and prospered,” Townsend said. “We appreciate his diligent efforts and management over these past several years. Doug is the first to credit his staff, which speaks to his high character. We wish him the very best in retirement, knowing he will enjoy his favorite pastimes — traveling and golf.”

Townsend also announced Andy Lee, who currently serves as Senior Vice President, will assume the role of Branch President.

Lee is a 1998 graduate of Delta State University and has 15 years of banking experience. In addition to his B.B.A. in Business Administration from DSU, he has completed studies at both Vanderbilt University’s Southeastern School of Commercial Lending and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University.

Andy, a native of Magnolia, is actively involved in many charitable and economic development endeavors throughout the Delta.

He is a Past President of the Cleveland Noon Lion’s Club and a former officer of the Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church and the Cleveland Country Club.

In addition, he has served as a volunteer for United Way, the DSU Alumni Association, Octoberfest, the Italian Festival of Cleveland and Knights of Columbus. Lee is a member of the DSU Athletic Alumni Association, the Cleveland Rotary Club and former Membership Chairman of the Mississippi Young Bankers Association. He and his wife, Presley, have three children: Mary Cambre, Landry and Baylor.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I congratulate Andy Lee on his promotion to Cleveland Branch President,” Townsend said. “He has demonstrated exceptional skills at building financial relationships and will continue our path of customer focused banking and growth.”
