Bayou finishes third
The Bayou Academy Colts finished third in the North A Tournament at Marvell, Ark. Saturday evening.
The Colts sealed up the third spot with a 70-66 win over the DeSoto School Thunderbirds in overtime. Michael Portner and Caleb Pilgrim led the way for the Colts. Pilgrim scored 31 points, and Portner chipped with 18 points. Chantz Arbuckle also had a solid game with 13 points.
The Colts also went an impressive 14-of-20 from the free throw line.
Bayou improved to 18-9 and will be a No. 3 seed heading into the Class A State Tournament at Delta Academy in Marks. The Colts will play Wilkinson County Christian Academy on Tuesday in the first round at 4 p.m.
The win was especially huge considering the fact that the Colts lost to the West Memphis Christian Black Knights 72-41 on Friday.
Pilgrim led the Colts with 17 points.
MHSAA 2A Girls North Playoffs
New Site Girls 75, JFK 52
The John F. Kennedy Lady Hornets saw their season come to an end with a loss to the New Site Lady Royals in the semifinals at New Site Friday evening.
New Site led 43-18 at halftime and continued to cruise from there. Ieisha Mays led the Lady Hornets with 20 points, followed by Kierra Mays with 17 and Fredrica Haywood with 15.
JFK’s season ended at 20-8.
