The Colts improved to a perfect 6-0 by blasting the Briarfield Academy Rebels 64-28. Bayou pushed its district record to 2-0 mark.
Bayou played well through out the entire night especially on defense. Even when Bayou emptied the bench in the fourth quarter, the Colts were still able to hold the Rebels to just three points in the final period. Bayou led 15-7 after the first quarter and 36-17 at halftime. The Colts were never in any serious trouble.
“This group plays well as a whole team,” Colts head coach Winn Scott said. “A lot of these guys came up from the junior high last year and were starters last year so they know how to play. It makes it easy to sub because I have lots of guys that come off the bench and keep it going like it was if the starters were in there.”
The Colts were well balanced on offense. Caleb Pilgrim led Bayou with 13 points, followed by Michael Portner with nine, Tyler Kitchings with eight, Chantz Arbuckle and Christian Collins with seven each and Peyton Aldridge with six.
In the high school girls game and the junior high boys and girls games between Bayou and Briarfield, it was pretty much the same story.
In the girls game, the Lady Colts did have a battle on their hands, but they defeated the Lady Rebels 43-36. Bayou improved to 4-4 with a 1-1 mark in the district. Anna Grace Cummins led the Lady Colts with 16 points, followed by Taylor Ann Bailey with 11 and Carley Brock with seven.
In junior high girls action, Bayou blasted Briarfield 36-13. The Lady Colts led 24-5 at halftime. Bayou improved to 6-3 with a perfect 2-0 mark in the district. Carley Peden led the Lady Colts with 12 points, followed by Brantley Hutchinson and Ashley Vickers with eight each.
In junior high boys action, the Colts remained perfect at 6-0 with a 2-0 mark in the district by winning 49-10. Bayou had many players that contributed to the scoring. Nat Jones and Josh Willingham led the Colts with eight points each, followed by Tamer Marble, Griff Roberts, Kamien Gray and Peyton Chambers with six each.
All Bayou junior high and high school teams will return to action on Thursday when they host Delta Academy. The junior high girls will start first at 4 p.m., followed by the junior high boys, high school girls and high school boys.
