The gala, held from 5:30-8 p.m., is the largest fundraiser of the year with all proceeds benefiting the library system.
Library Director Lynn Shurden said the event has brought in between $15,000-$23,000 in previous years, and she is hopeful for similar results despite the weak economy.
"We are so grateful for all the contributions," said Shurden. "I believe we have more community support at our libraries than in many other parts of the state.
"Without the gala and the fundraising we would not have a lot of the things we have because of budget cuts."
This year the Friends plan to use gala funds to purchase eBooks for the new eBook collection, as well as purchasing a new computer and genealogy database for the Mississippi Room.
The library announced the eBooks service last month after receiving a $10,000 grant from the Library Services and Technology Act issued by the Mississippi Library Commission.
"We are really excited to be offering the eBooks service at the library," said Shurden. "We are seeing more and more technology in libraries and I'm glad we're keeping up with the trends."
The success of previous galas has allowed the Friends to purchase important upgrades at different branches, including: new patron access computers, a new conference table and chairs for the Founders Room, new furnishings for Mound Bayou and Rosedale, a new circulation desk at Robinson-Carpenter and more.
The Friends and the library system are very appreciative that the community has rallied again this year with many local businesses and individuals pledging to support the event.
Several local chefs and businesses will provide hors d'oeuvres, wine and flowers.
Danny & Alphonso will also be on hand for musical entertainment.
The gala will again feature the popular wine pull and the Friends are respectfully asking the community to help by donating wine purchased from participating stores.
The participating stores will have necessary donation forms available for those wishing to donate wine. The stores are Cecil’s Package Store, Lee Street Package Store and Ware Wine & Spirits.
Tickets are $25 per person and will be available prior to the event at Robinson-Carpenter Memorial Library. Tickets can also be purchased at the door the night of the gala.
In addition to the wine pull, there will also be a wine cash bar.

"We are looking forward to another great evening for the Grape Expectations Benefit Gala," added Shurden. "The event attracts people from all walks of life. Come out and support us."
