An unnamed 18-year-old female was hit by an alleged drunk driver in downtown Rosedale on Friday night.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when Norman Armstrong, 54, of Rosedale, claimed he did not see the young woman whom he struck her at the corner of Bradford Street and Martin Luther King Street.

The victim was airlifted to The MED in Memphis after experiencing major injuries. Her status was unknown as of presstime.

According to Trooper Charles Lamb with Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop D, Norman was charged with a DUI before he was transported to the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility.

The Rosedale Police Department, Highway Patrol and Bolivar County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

Sheriff Kelvin Williams said Armstrong was also driving without a license.

He was held at the BCRCF and released the next morning.

The Rosedale Police Department is handling the investigation but was unavailable for an official report before presstime.
