The Cleveland Board of Aldermen approved a resolution for Bolivar County Library Director Lynn Shurden in gratitude for her service to the city.

Shurden appeared before the board at its Tuesday meeting to express appreciation to the board and to inform them of her upcoming retirement.

“I was hoping that was a bad rumor,” said Mayor Billy Nowell.

Cleveland, along with the Bolivar County Board of Supervisors, is a major funding source for the library.

“I know we my not have seen eye-to-eye on everything but I wanted to say thank you,” said Shurden, who added a replacement has not been hired as of yet.

She said she hopes the new director will be someone from the Delta. “I think it matters being from the Delta.”

“You have always done a good job,” said Alderman Kirkham Povall, as others on the board agreed with the sentiment.

Shurden said when a new director was hired she would return and introduce the person to the city board.
