The Bayou Academy Colts continued their playoff series here at Colt Field Friday afternoon.

The Colts hammered the Delta Academy Raiders 9-1 to complete a two-game sweep in the second round of the Class A State Playoffs and earn a berth into the North A State Title series against Tri-County at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bayou. Game two will be Thursday on the road in Flora.

So far in four playoff games against DeSoto and Delta, the Colts (16-2) have outscored their opponents 40-2.

“Our pitchers are throwing strikes,” Bayou head coach Will Reed said. “Teams are now putting the ball in play more, but our defense is stepping up. We’ve had some timely hits, but we need to do a better job of executing our bunts.”

Michael Portner, who pitched with an injured finger, pitched through the pain as he went the full seven innings to earn the win. He ended up giving up just three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

“He battled through it through it today, and threw a gem,” Reed said about Portner. “He did a good job of baring down.”

The Colts jumped on top of the Raiders early in the bottom of the first. Caleb Pilgrim stroked a RBI-single, while Portner tagged a two-run single to make the score 3-0.

The Raiders were able to scored a run in the top of the second to make it 3-1, but the Colts charged right back in the bottom of the inning. Parker Hudson stroked a two-run homer to cap off a four-run inning to give the Colts a 7-1 advantage.

Bayou ended up scoring another run in the fourth and a run in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Pilgrim led the Colts at the plate by tagging three hits including a double with a RBI and a run, followed by Portner with two hits and two RBIs, Hudson with a two-run homer and Davis Dalton and Cole Hutchinson with a double each.
