Over Memorial Day weekend, the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department responded to two shooting incidents.

The first incident occurred early Saturday morning near Benoit on Lake Bolivar Road.

Several 911 calls came in saying that a subject had been shot but the victim wasn’t on the scene when deputies arrived.

Delta Regional Medical Center later called reporting that a 17-year-old male came in with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg. The victim couldn’t identify a suspect at the time of incident.

The second incident occurred Saturday just before noon on Washington Road in Cleveland.

Deputies responded to a possible gunshot victim at this location. When deputies arrived on scene, they found one deceased woman with a single gunshot to the head.

The victim was identified as Amanda Gilliland-Boswell, 30. BCSD Chief Deputy Gerald Wesley Jr. said her body was taken to Jackson for an autopsy.

No other information was available at presstime and Wesley said both incidents are still under investigation by the BCSD.
