Cleveland employs a city manager

Cleveland officials have reorganized positions at city hall.

Beginning Monday, the city will have a human resource/city manager and a new city clerk.

John Lindsey, formerly the city administrator, will officially take over the duties of city clerk, though he has been serving as interim.

Farae Wolfe, who was previously an accounts payable analyst at Delta State University, will take on the day-to-day operation of the Cleveland.

“The mayor’s position is part-time,” said Mayor Billy Nowell, “so she will attend city functions and be the face of Cleveland.

“John (Lindsey) has been wearing two hats and it’s an impossible job. He is a CPA by trade and his strong suit is financing,” added Nowell.

Lindsey said unlike many city clerks he would maintain the budget and work on financial end of things.

He said there is a certification process for being a city clerk and he has already begun.

“It get into more specific details of the position, like elections,” said Lindsey.

Nowell said despite receiving a number of applications, Wolfe stood out as a problem-solver and someone willing to learn.

A graduate of Delta State University, Wolfe has worked with the Bolivar County Community Action Agency and the Cleveland School District.

In 2005, she participated in Class II of the Mid-South Delta Leaders program, a tri-state community leadership development program operating in the 55 Delta counties/parishes of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
