Around 30 people were displaced after a fire destroyed a set of apartments in Shaw Tuesday.

It took four to five hours to extinguish the blaze at Promise Land Apartments after the Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at about 1:30 p.m.

Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department responded with a ladder truck in addition to county Battalions 1 and 5.

According to Lee Tedder, chief of BCVFD, the top floor of the apartment building, which consisted of four units, was completely destroyed and the bottom floor sustained heavy water and smoke damage.

No injuries were reported although Pafford EMS also responded to the scene.

While the fire department was told the cause of the fire was electrical, a fire marshal will assess the damage and determine a cause today.

"We are not suspecting arson," said Tedder.
