It was an exciting day at the Dixie Youth District 1 8-year old Coach Pitch Tournament here at Bear Pen Park Tuesday.

The featured matchup of the evening pitted the Cleveland West All-Stars against the Cleveland East All-Stars in a winner’s bracket showdown.

Both teams battled hard making some sensational defensive plays, but when the dust settled Cleveland West managed to hit the ball better to pull out an 11-5 win over Cleveland East.

With the win, the Cleveland West squad will face Indianola at 7 p.m. tonight and the Cleveland East team will play Humphreys County at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

Cleveland East started the game in strong fashion with Jaylen McRoy and Trenton Cooper leading off with singles. Rufus Jackson followed with a base hit to drive in a run for a 1-0 Cleveland East lead.

Misfortune struck the East squad on the next at bat when Nicholas Taylor's fly ball was caught which resulted in two outs because the runner on second base left the bag and was tagged out when trying to get back to second. The next Cleveland East batter grounded out to end the inning.

Cleveland West responded in the bottom of the first with Patrick Bramuchi leading off with a single and advancing to third off a couple of throwing errors. Jacob Smith drove Bramuchi in with a base hit to tie the game at 1-1. Following a pop up that resulted in the team's first out; Colin Russell stroked a double to score Smith for a 2-1 Cleveland West lead. The West team managed to add one more run in the inning when Carter Connell roped a base hit through the infield to score Russell from third for a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Cleveland East added a run when Pete Brown Jr. socked an inside-the-park home run for a 3-2 game.

In the bottom half of the third, the West squad came alive as Marshall Brown stroked a triple and Bramuchi followed with a base hit to score Brown for a 4-2 lead. Cleveland West's next two batters popped up for two outs. With Cleveland East one out away from closing out the inning, Cleveland West decided to rally with two outs and rally they did. Russell hit a single and Connell followed with a single to score Bramuchi from third for a 5-2 Cleveland West lead. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Caleb Carter socked a triple to drive in Russell and Connell for a 7-2 Cleveland West lead. Cleveland West added three more runs in the inning to take a 10-2 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Cleveland East added three runs for a 10-5 game, which included a triple from Charles Crowder Jr. that drove in two runs.

That would be as close as Cleveland East would get as Cleveland West added another run in the fourth for an 11-5 score.
