Two airlifted after accident in Merigold on Saturday

The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the Mound Bayou Police Department, responded to a one-car accident on Pemble Road in Merigold at 4:13 p.m. on Saturday.

The car, driven by Naquita Porter of Mound Bayou and carrying Christine Dixon of Pace, collided with a tree, trapping the two women in the vehicle.

When the sheriff’s department arrived, emergency medical services were already on scene.

Porter was immediately airlifted while Dixon was first taken to Bolivar Medical Center before being airlifted to University Medical Center.

Both women are being treated for head trauma and internal bleeding.

The cause of the accident is unknown but more information about the accident is expected after the two women’s health starts to improve.
