This year, free ACT tests will be given to all juniors and seniors attending Cleveland High School and East Side High School.

The Cleveland School District was recently approved by ACT, Inc. as an ACT In-District Test Site, which will allow the two high schools to give the ACT.

This approval is for this school year only and the district will have to reapply to give the ACT in following years.

The district will be covering the cost of all the junior ACT tests, and Gear Up Mississippi is covering the cost of all the senior ACT tests.

Each test will cost the district and Gear Up Mississippi $36.50, the same price that a student would pay if not tested in-district.

Approximately 165 students are expected to take the test.

These tests will be given during school hours at a location that has yet to be determined.

The opportunity to test in town will save students travel time and money, and will hopefully encourage students to attend college that may not have been considering it.

“This is just one of the steps students have to take to assure that they are ‘College and Career Ready,’” said Superintendent Dr. Jackie Thigpen. “This agreement includes an interest inventory that will provide information to assist in both career and educational planning.”
