According to Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams, the department is projected to receive at least four new patrol cars.

The department was recently awarded Rural Development Grant Assistance from the United States Department of Agriculture.

The program assistance can be provided in many ways, including direct or guaranteed loans, grants, technical assistance research and educational materials.

In Monday's Bolivar County Board of Supervisor’s meeting, the county approved $42,000 to match the grant from USDA.

The cars must be purchased from a dealership that is under a state contract or from a dealer that honors the state contract.

"Depending on the availability of the cars, it will take four to six weeks before we will receive them after the county has matched the grant.

"If we can find them, we are going to go on and grab them. The logos are done by a design company," said Williams.

"These cars will be replacing some older ones. We really want to help with the fleet.

"The goal is to have everything finalized by the next billing cycle,” said Will Hooker, county administrator.
