The Cleveland Police Department is hunting for three individuals involved in a crime that is not normally seen in Bolivar County.

A call was received on Sunday from a female "she stated that a person had attempted to rape her and she fought them off by hitting them over the head with a lamp," said Cleveland Chief of Police Buster Bingham.

At approximately the same time, the police department received a call from Bolivar Medical Center saying a male subject was at the ER and had been beaten severely over the head.

Bingham said, "An investigation was ensued and it was determined that the female subject and two other accomplices beat and robbed the male victim and was attempting to cover up their crime by making a false accusation against the male victim."

While these three subjects have not been taken into custody, the male victim was treated at the hospital and released.

"We have arrest warrants for all three subjects for aggravated assault and robbery. We're attempting to locate them at this time," said Bingham.

The Bolivar Commercial will have more on this story as it develops.
