Mound Bayou’s Septemberfest is projected to be a blast.

On Friday, the East Side High School Trojans will play the Hornets of John F. Kennedy.

Blues singer Nellie "Tiger" Travis of Mound Bayou will grace the game by singing the National Anthem.

Travis has headlined at the Chicago Blues Festival and performed numerous Festivals and clubs around the world in places such as Japan, Greece, Italy, Germany, Brazil and her hometown of Mississippi.

Following the game, the city is sponsoring a block party at the Mound Bayou Facility building.

"Septemberfest is being held in the best city in Mississippi,” said Mayor Darryl Johnson. "We are looking for 100 of people to come out and celebrate with us.

"We're excited because people are coming back home."

The fun and festivities will continue on Saturday after the 5K run, in the middle of downtown Mound Bayou.

"Septemberfest will begin around 11 a.m. and will continue until later that evening,” said Johnson.

"It is going to be filled with food, fun, and music. We will have entertainment during the entire event. Nellie "Tiger" Travis is on the list of entertainers.

"A lot of class and family reunions will be in conjunction with Septemberfest," said Johnson.

To wrap up Saturday's festivity, another block party will be held at the Mound Bayou Facility Building.

On Sunday Johnson is encouraging everyone to join the city for more activities at the facility building.

"I want to encourage people to come. There will be people visiting Mound Bayou from all over the world," said Johnson.
