Two die over night

Cleveland Police surrounded 601 Lane Street Thursday morning after receiving a call of a stabbing at 5:50 a.m.

"Once officers arrived on the scene they found Hilbert Cook, age 46, in front of 601 Lane with a stab wound to the neck area," said Police Chief Buster Bingham.

Cook was transported to Bolivar Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Tommette Perkins, 44, and Cook got into an altercation that began in the bathroom and resulted in her stabbing Cook.

"Ms. Perkins has been charged with one count of murder and she is awaiting her initial hearing," said Bingham.

In another incident, a woman riding her bicycle Wednesday evening died after being struck by a truck.

At 5:28 p.m. Mississippi Highway Patrol along with Bolivar County Sherriff's Department, Bolivar County Fire Rescue and EMS responded to an accident on Miss. Highway 1.

Joseph Guest, 33, of Hollandale was driving a 2002 Ford F-250 traveling south when it collided with a pedestrian on a bicycle.

Claudia Rhodes, 54, of Minneapolis, Minn., was riding her bicycle south when the accident occurred.

Rhodes was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained from the accident.

Guest was not injured. 

The accident is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
