An officer was patrolling around 11:15 p.m. Thursday on the 900 block of Church Avenue when he heard what appeared to be gunshots.

"He looked up about a block away from him and saw a subject run and jump into a grey colored car," said Cleveland Police Chief Buster Bingham.

The chief said the grey car began to drive off and as the officer sped up to catch up with the car, a pedestrian flagged the officer down and said that the person who jumped into the car had been the one to fire the shots.

"He caught up with the car and a short time later the car pulled over to the side of the road. One subject jumped out and ran," said Bingham.

The officer was able to detain three men who were in the car.

Those men were Cordarious Walker, 31, Jayvious Johnson, 21, and Tavoris Marshall, 26, all Cleveland residents.

During the investigation it was learned that Charlie McGee had suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left leg.

"Mr. McGee was transported to the BMC by personal vehicle where he was later flown to UMC in Jackson. He was listed in serious but stable condition," said Bingham.

Walker, Johnson, and Marshall were charged with aggravated assault and were taken to the Bolivar County Regional Correction facility to await an initial hearing.

The CPD has a warrant on the fourth subject that ran from the car and requested the name be withheld until he could be located.

In another incident, which was early Friday morning, Cleveland Police received a call that shots were fired in the area of East Side Manor Apartments.

"When officers arrived on the scene they began an investigation and at that point we received a call from the ER stating that a Laquisha Cosey had been transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.

"Miss Cosey was pronounced dead at the ER," said Bingham.

After further investigation, police arrested Darius Craig, 21, as the alleged shooter.

"At this time it appears to be a domestic situation in which Mr. Craig's girlfriend was sitting in a car with Laquisha and a male subject. He got upset because she (his unnamed girlfriend) was in the car.

"He opened a door on the car and shot once into the vehicle striking Laquisha," said Bingham.

Craig has been charged with one count of murder and is at BCRCF awaiting an initial hearing.
