East Side Boys 69, West Bolivar 35

The East Side Trojans started the season in strong fashion with a 34-point win over the West Bolivar Eagles Thursday in Cleveland to improve to 1-0. The Eagles fell to 0-1.

John Paul Davis led the Trojans with 16 points and seven blocks, followed by Clarence Stewart with 15 points and Charles Jackson with nine points and seven assists.

East Side will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Indianola to play Gentry and Thursday when they host Greenville-Weston.

Broad Street Boys 47, Coahoma County 42

The Broad Street Jaguars started the year off with a come-from-behind victory over the Coahoma County Red Panthers Thursday.

Broad Street trailed 25-14 at halftime, but rallied to pull out the victory to start the year 1-0.

Michael Williams led Broad Street with 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals, followed by B.J. Hall with 13 points, three assists and three steals and Justin Mitchell with 11 points.

The Jaguars will host Riverside Saturday.

East Side Girls 54, West Bolivar 36

The East Side Trojanettes started the season 1-0 Thursday with the win over the West Bolivar Lady Eagles at the D.M. Smith Gymnasium.

West Bolivar fell to 0-1.

Carvacier Sanders led the Trojanettes with 14 points, followed by LaKeisha Cotton had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots.

The Trojanettes will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Indianola to play Gentry and Thursday when they host Greenville-Weston.

Bayou Girls 51, Sharkey 24

The Bayou Academy Lady Colts opened up their basketball season with success as they hammered the Sharkey Issaquena Lady Confederates Thursday night in Cleveland.

Anna Grace Cummins led Bayou with 19 points, followed by Ashley Vickers with eight points, Caroline Salley with seven points and Taylor Ann Bailey with six points.

Bayou will return to the basketball court on Tuesday to play Deer Creek in Cleveland with the junior high girls set to start at 4 p.m.

Coahoma County Girls 56, Broad Street 32

The Broad Street Lady Jaguars fell hard Thursday in Clarksdale against the Coahoma County Lady Red Panthers. Broad Street fell to 0-1.

Katherine Dumas led Broad Street with 16 points and Kelvinesha Jefferson scored 11 points.

The Jaguars will host Riverside Saturday.

Bayou Jr. Girls 31, Sharkey 10

The Bayou Academy Lady Colts cruised past Sharkey Lady Confederates in junior hoops action Thursday night.

Chrissy Tubbs led Bayou with 15 points, followed by Ashlyn Cummins with four

Bayou improved to 1-3.

Shelby Middle Girls 44, D.M. Smith 21

The Shelby Middle School Lady Jaguars remained undefeated at 6-0 Thursday with a 23-point win over the D.M. Smith Middle School Trojanettes.

Jamiya McRoy led the Lady Jaguars with 17 points, Tonneisha Bell scored 11 points, Destiny Hall and Jermequa Ward scored six points each and Jekeja Hemmingway scored four points.

MGJH Girls 28, Leland 26

The Margaret Green Junior High Lady Wildcats slid by the Leland Junior High Thursday evening.

MGJH improved to 3-0.

Mariah Forest led the Lady Wildcats with 17 points, followed by Maya Anderson, Aurelia “Scoobie” Caine and Audrianna Kirkham with two points each.

Drew-Hunter Girls 33, JFK 29

The Drew-Hunter Middle School Lady Eagles defeated the John F. Kennedy Jr. High Lady Hornets Thursday to improve to 1-1 on the year. Fredasya Matthews led Drew-Hunter with 14 points, followed by Briniqua Williams with eight points.

Drew-Hunter will play in Moorhead Monday.

Leland Jr. Boys 41, MGJH 36

The Leland Middle School Braves escaped with a victory over the Margaret Green Junior High Wildcats Thursday evening.

MGJH fell to 1-2.

Quintiyus Causey led the Wildcats with 14 points, followed by Brent Brown with 13 points, Bryer Weast with four points and Will Midlick and Josh Hill with two points each.

Both MGJH boys and girls team will be back in action at Cleveland on Monday against West Bolivar Middle School.

D.M. Smith Boys 51, Shelby Middle 13

The D.M Smith Trojans defeated the Shelby Middle School Jaguars Thursday to improve to 7-0.

Stanley Buford led the way for the Trojans with 13 points, six assist, eight rebounds and three steals, Kamarian Williams had 10 points, five rebounds and eight steals, followed by Trayveion Craig with six points and eight steals, Curtis Latham with six points, Fredrick Johnson with five points and Leroy Cotton, Jr. with four points.

D.M Smith will be back in action against McEvans Monday at home.

JFK Jr. High Boys 54, Drew Hunter Middle 47

The John F. Kennedy Jr. High Hornets improved to 4-1 Thursday with their win over the Drew-Hunter Middle School Eagles.

Alajawon Foster led the Hornets with 15 points, Randolph Nelson and Jeremy Banks scored 10 points each, Cedric Gardner had nine points and Shamodd Strickland scored eight points. Randarious Maxon led Drew-Hunter with 23 points and Dyrondarious Amison scored 11.

The Hornets will host Ray Brooks Monday. Drew-Hunter will play in Moorhead Monday.
