Trooper wrecks on way to accident

This morning officials were busy on the roads with one wreck on U.S. Highway 61 near Mom's Truck Stop and a second in front of Guaranty Bank.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Tony Dunn, "Around 9 a.m. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper John Lantern, who is assigned to Bolivar County, was in route to a two vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 61 when he was involved in an accident.

"Trooper Lantern's patrol vehicle left U.S. Highway 61 near Guaranty Bank and collided with a utility pole. Trooper Lantern sustained minor injuries in accident."

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations Accident Investigation Division is investigating the accident.

Bolivar County Deputies assisted with the two-vehicle accident that Lantern had been dispatched to.

As of presstime there was no report on the accident at Mom’s Truck Stop.
