SHELBY — It wasn't easy, but the Lady Hornets did what they needed to do to remain undefeated at 18-0 with a 52-40 win over the Broad Street Lady Jaguars here at the Isaiah Peterson Gymnasium.

JFK improved to 8-0 in Region 3-1A, while Broad Street fell to 5-9 overall with a 3-3 mark in the region.

The Hornets struggled shooting the basketball, but defensively they forced a lot of turnovers, which ultimately proved too much for the Lady Jaguars to overcome.

JFK led Broad Street 28-22 at halftime. With 1:40 remaining in the fourth quarter JFK was up 46-40. Broad Street had a chance to cut into the lead, but three consecutive turnovers led to six points as the Lady Hornets pushed their lead to 52-40.

Senior standout Frederica Haywood was too much to handle for Broad Street as she poured in 32 points with 13 rebounds and five steals. Ieysha Mays added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Katherine Dumas and Masie Cooper had strong games in the paint for Broad Street with Dumas finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Cooper adding nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

JFK will host Coahoma Aggie Saturday in Mound Bayou in a non-conference game and Broad Street will travel to Benoit to face Ray Brooks in a Region 3-1A matchup.
