She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. John G. and Becky Crawford; two granddaughters and their husbands and seven great-grandchildren Sarah and Corey Widmer of Richmond, Va.; and their daughters: Sophia, Anna, Phoebe and Frances; and Rachel and Todd Johnson of Nashville, and their children Cooper, William and Eleanor.
“Gigi,” as she was affectionately called by her family, was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ellsworth Gordon “Butch” Crawford (decd. 1991).
Johnie and Ellsworth met in Memphis. She worked as a billing clerk for the Frisco Lines and Red Ball Freight. He was a communications engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad. They made their home in Memphis, TN, where she became a homemaker after the birth of their son. They lived in Chicago, Ill., for almost 15 years where she worked for the Chicago Board of Trade. After they retired, Johnie and Ellsworth moved to Nashville to be with their granddaughters and family.
Born in Pace, in 1920 to Charlie Pink and Bertha Dean Collins, she was the last living of the Collins’ sisters: Lady Helen Collins Brown, Ethelene Collins and Frances Collins Burgess.
Johnie was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. During the past few years she worshipped with the congregation at Southminster Presbyterian Church where her son serves as pastor.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Southminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Corey Widmer officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.
