Gentry Girls 46, Cleveland 34
The Cleveland High School Lady Wildcats came up short as they lost to the Gentry High School Lady Rams in the first round of the Region 3-4A Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday night at Yazoo County High School in Yazoo City.
Cleveland fell to 17-12.
Katelyn Thompson scored nine points, pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded three steals to lead the Lady Wildcats, followed by Taylor Collins with 10 points and three steals.
Cleveland will play Greenwood in the consolation game at 4 p.m.
Greenwood Boys 80, Cleveland 42
The Cleveland High School High School Wildcats were dominated by the Greenwood High School Bulldogs Tuesday night in the first round of the Region 3-4A Tournament at Yazoo County High School in Yazoo City.
Ellis Townsend led Cleveland with 12 points.
Cleveland will play Yazoo County in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m.
Region 3-3A Tournament
East Side Girls 66, O'Bannon 36
The East Side High Trojanettes improved to 19-6 on the year with a blow out win over the O'Bannon Lady Green Waves in the first round of the Region 3-3A Tournament held at J.J. McClain High School in Lexington. East Side's Keisha Cotton flirted with a triple double as she led the Trojanettes with 22 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks. She also dished out four assists and had three steals. Carvacier Sanders poured in 21 points with seven rebounds and two steals, Lashawn Palmer scored eight points and Shammia Love chipped in with six points to aid East Side.
East Side will play McClain Friday at 7 p.m. for the championship.
McClain Girls 62, Ruleville 54
The Ruleville Central Lady Tigers lost to the McClain Lady Mustangs in the first round of the Region 3-3A Tournament in Lexington Tuesday night.
Ruleville fell to 17-9.
Shakira Singleton led the Lady Tigers with 30 points.
Ruleville will play in the consolation game at on Friday at 4 p.m.
East Side Boys 55, Ruleville 47
The East Side Trojans got 17 points from Perry Henry as he led the team to a 55-47 win over the Ruleville Central Tigers.
The Trojans are now 21-5 on the year and have advanced to play McClain at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Lexington for the championship.
Clarence Stewart scored 12 points to aid East Side, followed by John Paul Davis with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Charles Jackson and Barron Burns with six points each.
Ruleville will play in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m.
Region 3-2A Tournament
West Bolivar Boys 49, J.Z. George 40
The West Bolivar High School Eagles advanced to the semifinals of the Region 3-2A Boys Basketball Tournament by defeating the J.Z. George Jaguars in first round action Tuesday night in Leland.
West Bolivar improved to 16-13. Ladarius Tucker led the Eagles with 15 points, followed by Terrance Johnson with 13 points and Xavier Henderson with 10 rebounds.
West Bolivar will play South Delta at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals on Thursday.
Region 3-1A Tournament
JFK Boys 63, St. Joe 50
The John F. Kennedy Hornets picked up a hard fought win over the St. Joe Fighting Irish in the first round of the Region 3-1A Boys Basketball Tournament in Benoit Tuesday.
Kentrell Starks led the Hornets with 16 points, followed by Octavius Taylor with 13 points, Earl Hall Jr. with 10 points and Ladarius Johnson with nine points.
JFK will play Coldwater on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Broad Street Boys 49, Ray Brooks 41
The Broad Street Jaguars got past the Ray Brooks Tigers in the first round of the Region 3-1A Tournament Tuesday in Benoit.
With the win the Jaguars improved to 11-12 overall. Michael Williams led Broad Street with 21 points, followed by B.J. Hall with 17 points and Flo Robinson with seven points.
Syderrick Maiten led Ray Brooks with 12 points, followed by Jamarcus Marshall with 10 points.
Broad Street will play Shaw at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Shaw Girls 53, Broad Street 46
The Shaw High School Lady Hawks defeated the Broad Street Lady Jaguars in the first round of the Region 3-1A Girls Basketball Tournament in Benoit Tuesday evening.
Broad Street went 4-of-21 from the free throw line, as Shaw overcame an 18-point deficit.
Mary Woods led the Lady Hawks with 15 points, followed by Devarsha Short with 13 points and Shakiya Wadlington with eight points.
Masie Cooper led the Lady Jaguars with 15 points, followed by Asia Moore with 10 points and Tonniesha Bell with nine points.
Shaw will play JFK on Thursday in the semifinals at 4 p.m.
Ray Brooks Girls 74, St. Joe 26
The Ray Brooks High School Lady Tigers blasted the St. Joe Lady Fighting Irish in the first round of the Region 3-1A Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday night in Benoit.
Ray Brooks improved to 18-9. T’Kyra Hicks led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, followed by DyNesha Lindsey and Shunekqa Mungon with 16 points each and Alexis Weatherspoon with 11 points.
Ray Brooks will play Coldwater in the semifinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
