A man was shot and airlifted to the Med in Memphis Tuesday after an incident around 1 a.m.

The event happened over two counties, Bolivar and Sunflower, and a homicide in Ruleville is connected to the shooting.

"The county had an incident to happen that spilled over into Ruleville that spilled back into Cleveland to where we had a LaMarcus Matthews found shot in the 1700 block of Juanita Circle, “said Cleveland Police Chief Buster Bingham.

“Mr. Matthews was transported by ambulance to Bolivar Medical Center where he was airlifted to the Med. The last we heard he was in critical condition and our investigation is ongoing."

When asked about the county's investigation Sheriff Kelvin Williams would not comment.

"Everything we have we have forwarded to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and we are still investigating our part of it too."

According to Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood, LaMarcus Matthews shot and killed George Ivey Jr. in Ruleville late Monday night, early Tuesday morning.

The Bolivar Commercial will have more as the story develops.
