The Colts didn’t have any qualifiers for the North AA State Tournament, which will be held at the Cleveland Country Club on Monday.
Bayou’s Tres Heinsz had the best day for the Colts as he brought home the team’s only win of the day in No. 1 boys singles. Heinsz worked hard in both of his matches. Heinsz defeated Lee Academy’s Patrick Sartain in two competitive sets 6-3, 7-6 to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal round, Heinsz continued to play tough, but his effort wasn’t quite good enough as he lost to Indianola Academy’s Andrew Garrett in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
In No. 2 boys singles action, Bayou’s Parker McNeer was a No. 1 seed and had a first round bye. McNeer took on Lee Academy’s Will Fiyfe in the semifinals. The two players had a great three-set match. McNeer won the first set 6-3. Fiyfe battled back in the second set to win 7-5 to force a tiebreaker. Both players gave it their all in the tiebreaker set, but Fifye ended up winning 10-6 to eliminate McNeer.
In No. 1 girls singles action, Bayou’s Brittany Earls and North Delta’s Hasting Neal battled in an exciting first round match with Neal winning in straight sets 7-5, 7-5.
In the other matches for Bayou, Bayou’s McKinzie Williams lost to Lee Academy’s Olivia Lee 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the No. 2 girls singles tournament; Bayou’s Molly Bassie and Jessica Tedford lost to Indianola’s Abby Gilbert and Sarah Allyn 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 1 girls doubles tournament; Bayou’s Libby Bassie and Jane Ellen Warlick lost to Kirk’s Katie Toole and Layne Merchant 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 girls doubles tournament; Bayou’s Blaine Cooper and Samuel Cooper lost to Indianola’s Josh Hill and Cody Marshall 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 boys doubles tournament; Bayou’s Mike Iacopelli and Rhodes Morgan lost to Kirk’s Jones Stanford and Jaggers Denley 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 boys doubles tournament and Bayou’s Maggie Sledge and Sam Capps lost to North Delta’s Shaeffer Llana and Austin Pointer 6-1, 6-0 in the mixed doubles tournament.
