Mr. Yeager was born on May 25, 1926, to Robert Lee Yeager and Louella Doughty Yeager in Natchez. The family moved to Skene in 1934 to farm. Mr. Yeager graduated from Skene Consolidated School and attended Delta State College before going into service. He served in the Army Medical Corp in both Korea and in the Army of occupation of Japan, returning home from service; he married his high school sweetheart, Margery Bays. He continued his education at Mississippi State University receiving a degree in Agriculture Education. After teaching two years in the Veteran’s Administration Program in DeValls Bluff, Ark., he returned to Skene to manage the family farm. He loved farming and enjoyed it immensely until his retirement due to health reasons in 1991.
He was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church which he loved and attended regularly as long as possible, a member of the Mayflower Society, the Germana Heritage Association, Production Credit Association, MS Farm Bureau, Delta Council, Mississippi Rice Growers Association and the Soybean Association. He served on the boards of directors of Greenville Production Credit Corp, The Bolivar County Farm Bureau, the Skene Civic Improvement Society and was on the first Board of Directors of Bayou Academy.
Mr. Yeager was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. His love of his family gave him an interest and desire to research past generations. This began his genealogy hobby and maternal bloodline to the Mayflower.
